People are always asking me if I, Bobo, am the same person as Swiss spinner and songster DJ Bobo, and until reader Michael tipped me to this video, "Vampires Are Alive" -- Switzerland's 2007 Eurovision entry -- my answer was always "no." But now I will go out of my way to foster confusion on that point, because how awesome is this song, and how cool would it be to walk into a party and have people think you were the man responsible for its creation? The thing's got more lyrical non sequiturs than I don't even know how to make an analogy to express how many lyrical non-sequiturs it has!
It's also got all sorts of weird tonal dissonances, my favorite being when DJ Bobo--I presume--is all like "Sell your soul!" and the female vocalist responds, with generic house diva positivity, "Let it go-o-o-o-o-o," as if selling your soul--to Dracula? to the Devil?--and then letting it go existed on the same moral level as dance music imperatives to 'get lost in the rhythm' or to 'free your mind.'
Here is their actual Eurovision performance. Watch it and then explain to me how the fuck DJ Bobo and Co. lost to this dumpy Serbian dyke.
