We are so proud to introduce our readers to Stu Rasmussen, America's first transgendered mayor!
In the kind of story that would've made headlines sooner in a less crowded election year, the small Oregon city of Silverton just elected crossdresser Stu Rasmussen over Republican incumbent Ken Hector as their mayor...and by a 13 point margin!
Rasmussen had previously served two terms as the town's mayor (in '88 and '90) before undergoing very-limited gender reassignment surgery. He's kept his junk intact, makes no effort to feminize his voice, hasn't taken hormones. He's had the same girlfriend for 35 years.
Stu ran on a platform of responsible, slow growth for the town of Silverton, a town he's lived in his whole life. If there's a lesson to be drawn from Stu's amazing story, it's about the importance of small, local victories in building broad-based support for GLBT issues.

He's so well known, and such a long-time, well-respected citizen of Silverton, that dogmatic anti-queer sentiment didn't stand much of a chance of thwarting his candidacy.

I love everything about Stu and the people or Silverton. Did you know that the population of Silverton is larger than that of Wasilla when Pig Palin became mayor? DO YOU SEE WHERE I AM GOING WITH THIS???

yes. this is true and awesome.
I'd have to agree with him when he says that Silverton is the coolest town on Earth.. I wish all places could be like that.. not judging on appearance or lifestyle, but on how devoted the person is and how well-suited they are for the job. I love Stu, and I love his girlfriend; I want to move there. :)
